行程回顾

2023年5月11日至5月13日,我校人文学院心理系一行赴北京开展为期两天的学术交流活动。此次活动由温肯人文学院副院长Dr. Horn带队,心理系副教授Dr. English牵头,心理系助理教授李倩博士和人文学院院办助理徐萌璐老师共同参加。此次交流先后赴芝加哥大学北京中心、中国科学院心理研究所、中国人民大学进行学术交流与考察,完成三次学术报告,与相关高校和机构就教科研合作和人才培养方面进行了深入探讨,促进中美两国高校之间的合作与交流。

主题演讲

5月11日,我校心理系与芝加哥大学北京中心共同承办学术活动,以“从走出校园到融入社会:从学生到社会人身份转变适应”为主题开展专题学术研讨会。本次活动于芝加哥大学北京中心举办,旨在从学术角度探讨当代青年学生如何适应身份转变。

本次会议由我校心理系副教授Dr. Alex English主持,并于会中与华中科技大学管理学院副教授郑璐博士一起就其团队的学术课题(该课题荣获芝大北京中心资金支持)做学术汇报分享。我校人文学院副院长Dr. Denise M. Horn及芝加哥大学北京中心主任戈泽宁博士做欢迎致辞。芝加哥大学布斯商学院副教授Dr. Thomas Talhelm就“当代中国青年的概念化文化”一题做线上专题演讲。此次活动,非常荣幸邀请到于2023年荣获首届津巴多心理学奖的特邀嘉宾清华大学社会科学院院长彭凯平教授,就“从大学到工作:当代中国青年如何做好过渡期的心理准备”一题发表专题演讲。

此次活动,也十分荣幸邀请到中国人民大学心理系胡平教授、中国人民大学公共管理学院刘颖教授、中科院心理所穆妍教授以及中科院心理所的任孝鹏副教授参与专题讲座进行专题讨论。与会代表们共同研讨了学生在社会角色转变过程中所面临的挑战、支持与资源等方面的问题,并分享了各自的研究成果和经验。

在本次学术交流活动现场,十分欣喜地巧遇我校第一届校友周晓高同学。周同学为我校2016届英语专业毕业生,现于芝加哥大学社会学系攻读社会学博士学位。院长Dr. Horn诚挚邀请周同学回母校为学弟学妹们做校友分享。

访问中科院心理所

5月12日上午,我校团队赴中国科学院心理研究所进行学术交流,探访中科院心理所的心理实验室,重点调研了磁共振成像研究中心和近红外光学成像实验室。此次考察旨在深入了解学习中科院心理所在心理学领域的教科研经验与成果。

我校心理系副教授Dr. Alex English于当日受邀就“What Moving Can Tell Us About Psychological Changes During Translations”为主题进行专题讲座。讲座现场洋溢着浓厚的学术氛围,Dr. English生动幽默的讲座引起台下师生们许多共鸣,师生们踊跃提问,与Dr. English就该主题进行热烈的学术讨论和交流。结束之际,中科院心理所穆妍教授表达了与温肯心理系未来加强交流合作的期盼。

5月12日下午,我校团队受邀赴人民大学心理学系进行学术访问。人民大学心理学系副主任温晓通教授,胡平教授亲自接待并参与学术座谈会。在座谈会上,两校就心理学系教育改革、学科发展、科研培养等问题进行了深入探讨和交流。会后,我校团队在人大心理系实验室负责老师的带领下参观考察人大心理系实验室。我校心理系副教授Dr. Alex English于当日受邀就“如何发表高质量的论文——以文化心理学研究为例”为主题进行专题讲座,讲座现场人大同学们积极踊跃地提问,并分享自己的科研经验,本次学术考察在掌声和欢笑中圆满结束。

From May 11 to May 13, 2023, a delegation from the Psychology Department of the College of Liberal Arts went to Beijing to carry out a two-day academic exchange. The activity was led by Dr. Denise M. Horn, Associate Dean of the WKU College of Liberal Arts, Dr. Alex English, Associate Professor of the Department of Psychology, Dr. Li Qian, Assistant Professor of the Department of Psychology, and Xu Menglu, Assistant of the College of Liberal Arts. During the seminar, the team visited the Beijing Center of the University of Chicago. The Institute of Psychology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Renmin University of China for academic exchanges and psychology laboratory inspections, conducted three research presentations, and had in-depth exchanges with relevant universities and institutions for capacity building and improving scientific research cooperation, personnel training, and promoting Sino-US cooperation.

On May 11th, a collaborative academic event on the theme of “Transitioning from Student to Professional: Adapting to Social Roles” was held by Wenzhou-Kean University Psychology Department and the University of Chicago Beijing Center. This event aimed to explore, from an academic perspective, how contemporary young students can adapt to the transition of their identities when entering the professional world.

The conference was chaired by Associate Professor Dr. Alex English from our Psychology Department. During the event, Dr. English and Associate Professor Lu Zheng from Huazhong University of Science and Technology delivered academic presentations and shared their insights on the topic. Dr. Denise M. Horn, Associate Dean of College of Liberal Arts at Wenzhou-Kean University, and Dr. Gozney, Director of the University of Chicago Beijing Center, delivered welcome speeches. We were honored to have Professor Kaiping Peng, Dean of the School of Social Sciences at Tsinghua University and recipient of the inaugural Zimbardo Psychology Prize in 2023, as a distinguished guest. Professor Peng delivered a keynote speech on “Preparing Contemporary Chinese Youth for the Transition from University to Work: Psychological Considerations.”

It is also a great honor to invite Professor Hu Ping from the Department of Psychology of Renmin University of China, Professor Liu Ying from the School of Public Administration of Renmin University of China, Professor Mu Yan from the Institute of Psychology of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Associate Professor Ren Xiaopeng from the Institute of Psychology of Chinese Academy of Sciences to participate in the special lecture and discussion. The participants discussed the challenges, support and resources faced by students in the process of changing their social roles, and shared their research results and experiences.

In this academic seminar, we are very pleased to meet the first generation alumnus of our university, Zhou Xiaogao. Zhou is a 2016 English major graduate of our school, and is currently pursuing a PhD in Sociology in the Department of Sociology at the University of Chicago. Our Associate Dean Dr. Horn sincerely invites Zhou to return to his Alma mater to share with the current students.

On the morning of May 12th, our university team visited the Institute of Psychology at the Chinese Academy of Sciences for academic exchange. We had the opportunity to visit the psychology laboratories, with a particular focus on the Magnetic Resonance Imaging Research Center and the Near-Infrared Optical Imaging Laboratory. The purpose of this visit was to gain in-depth knowledge of the research and achievements in the field of psychology at the Institute of Psychology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Our Associate Professor from the Department of Psychology, Dr. Alex English, was invited to deliver a keynote lecture on the topic “What Moving Can Tell Us About Psychological Changes During Translations.” The lecture was filled with a vibrant academic atmosphere, and Dr. English’s engaging and humorous presentation resonated with the faculty and students in attendance. They actively participated by asking questions and engaging in lively academic discussions and exchanges with Dr. English on the subject matter. At the end of the event, Professor Mu Yan from the Institute of Psychology expressed her hope for strengthened communication and collaboration between the Institute and our psychology department at Wenzhou-Kean University.

Same day afternoon, our university team was invited to visit the Department of Psychology at Renmin University of China for an academic visit. Professor Wen Xiaotong and Professor Hu Ping, Deputy Directors of the Department of Psychology of Renmin University, personally received and participated in the academic symposium. During the symposium, both universities engaged in in-depth discussions and exchanges on topics such as educational reforms, disciplinary development, and research cultivation in the field of psychology. After the symposium, our team, accompanied by the Faculty from Renmin University’s Department of Psychology, visited their laboratory facilities. On the same day, Dr. Alex English was invited to deliver a keynote lecture on the topic “How to Publish High-Quality Papers: A Case Study in Cultural Psychology.” Students from Renmin University showed great enthusiasm in the lecture, asking questions and sharing their own research experience. The academic visit ended up with lengthy applause and praise.

Wenzhou-Kean University College of Liberal Arts will continue to actively engage in international academic exchanges and collaborations, working hand-in-hand with renowned universities worldwide to contribute to the development of psychology education, research, and advancement.
