Wenzhou-Kean University Student Honored with Bronze at Prestigious Asian Sustainable Campus Network Summit

March 04, 2026 | Green Campus

Recently, the 2026 Asian Sustainable Campus Network (ASCN) Summit was held at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand. Under the dedicated guidance of Dr. Candy Lim Chiu and Dr. Han-Chiang Ho, Yutong Liu, a student from our university's College of Business and Public Management, was invited to attend the summit as a representative of the university's green development team. During the ASCN Student Presentation session, drawing upon the latest research findings of both professors in the field of circular economy, Liu delivered a well-grounded and compelling presentation that earned the team a Bronze-Level Award, bringing international recognition to the university.

The Asian Sustainable Campus Network (ASCN) was jointly founded by the Sustainable University Network of Thailand (SUN Thailand), the China Green University Network (CGUN), the Campus Asia Sustainability Network Japan (CAS-NET Japan), and the Korea Alliance of Green Campus Initiative (KAGCI). Its core mission is to provide an academic exchange and cooperation platform for sustainable campus development across the Asia-Pacific region, facilitating the sharing of best practices and fostering consensus on development priorities. ASCN is one of the most influential international academic organizations in sustainability.

At the summit, our university's representative, Liu Yutong, presented under the theme "The Circular Economy Readiness Index (CERI): A Diagnostic Tool for Sustainable Transition," systematically showcasing the university's latest achievements and breakthroughs in green campus construction, circular economy practices, and community sustainability. Deeply rooted in the real-world needs of sustainable industrial transformation in Wenzhou's local manufacturing sector, the research innovatively developed a standardized assessment framework encompassing 14 dimensions, offering a scientifically sound and practical diagnostic tool for regional industrial green upgrading and campus sustainable development. Our representative also engaged in in-depth exchanges with delegates from renowned institutions, including Zhejiang University, Chulalongkorn University, Hanyang University, and Hokkaido University, sharing research insights and practical experiences. Liu's professional competence and the research's academic value were widely recognized and highly praised by experts and scholars present at the event.

Behind this honor lies the long-term dedication and steadfast mentorship of Dr. Candy Lim Chiu and Dr. Han-Chiang Ho. Under the rigorous guidance of both professors, the university's sustainability research team innovatively incorporated cutting-edge methodologies such as hierarchical cluster analysis into the model development process, iteratively refining the assessment framework to ensure the diagnostic tool's scientific rigor, precision, and practical applicability. The mentors not only provided exacting academic guidance and generously shared their expertise, but also leveraged the university's Student Partnering with Faculty Research Programs to build a robust bridge for deep integration among academia, industry, and research. By guiding students beyond the classroom and into the frontlines of enterprise operations, they enabled academic research to take root in the fertile ground of real-world practice, bridging the gap between academic inquiry and real-world impact.

In recent years, the university has consistently placed great emphasis on the deep integration of green campus development and research-driven education. The university has actively built international academic exchange platforms and encouraged faculty and students to engage in in-depth collaboration and practical exploration in frontier fields such as sustainable development and the circular economy. Through these efforts, the university is committed to cultivating students’ global perspective, sense of social responsibility, and capacity for innovative practice. This award at the ASCN Summit not only demonstrates the strong academic foundation and positive international presence of Wenzhou-Kean University students on the global academic stage but also reflects the university's unwavering commitment and remarkable achievements in nurturing high-caliber business talent with international competitiveness. It serves as a powerful new impetus for the university to continue advancing green development and deepening international cooperation.
