Strengthening Collaboration, Building the Future – Kean University President Repollet Leads Delegation to WKU

In early June, Dr. Lamont Repollet, President of Kean University, led a high-level delegation to Wenzhou-Kean University (WKU), deepening bilateral cooperation in academic development, educational quality, scientific research, and cultural exchange.

On the morning of June 5, the delegation toured key facilities on WKU's campus, including the History Museum, Ge Hekai Hall, the Science and Technology Building, and the Student Learning and Activity Center. They received detailed briefings on the university's infrastructure improvements, academic environment enhancements, and student-centered services. The delegates praised WKU's rapid progress and its modern, global-ready learning spaces.

That afternoon, the group visited Wuma Street and the historic Mochi Pool to experience traditional Wenzhou culture, including Chinese tea tasting and calligraphy appreciation. In the evening, the delegation was warmly welcomed by WKU graduates by the Ou Jiang River, where the skyscrapers displayed the words "I love WKU." The event was filled with heartfelt interactions and group photos.

On June 6, President Repollet and KU board members participated in WKU's Board of Directors meetings. Both universities jointly reviewed progress over the past year and discussed strategic cooperation in education, research, and internationalization.

  In a series of focused committee meetings, KU representatives introduced new proposals to enhance joint research initiatives, develop academic programs, and improve institutional quality. President Repollet highlighted KU's designation as an R2 Research University and pledged to expand the Glocal funding program. He also announced a $500,000 annual commitment to support the KU-WKU WELL exchange program, promoting youth development through internships and cultural immersion.

The Finance Committee approved the 2024 audit and the 2025–2026 budget, prioritizing academic development, faculty recruitment, and international cooperation. The Student and Community Affairs Committee honored student governance participation and emphasized the importance of student representation in university decisions.

That afternoon, the delegation attended WKU's 2025 Commencement Ceremony. In his speech, President Repollet encouraged graduates to become "bridges of understanding" and shape the future alongside communities. He praised WKU graduates' incredible brilliance, talent and leadership qualities. Board member John Kean Jr. reflected on the Kean family's educational mission and recognized WKU as a shining example of successful Sino-American collaboration.

  During the visit, the KU delegation also visited Wenzhou University, engaging in dialogue on higher education internationalization and regional cooperation. The delegation later traveled to Yandang Mountain and visited historic sites in Beijing.

  This visit further solidified the long-standing partnership between Kean University and WKU and set a promising course for expanded educational and research collaboration in the years to come.
