The 27th “FLTRP·ETIC Cup” National English Debating Competition, China’s largest and most prestigious collegiate English debate tournament, concluded its preliminary rounds triumphantly after three days of intense intellectual clashes.
A total of 175 teams sparred in a battle of wits, honing their arguments in pursuit of truth while showcasing the vigor, linguistic excellence, and critical thinking prowess.
The WKU team, represented by Chen Yining and Xu Haibo (both majoring in Communication) and coached by Ms. Huang Jiaojiao, won the Silver Award in the National Finals, ranking 55th out of 175 teams.
This follows their earlier triumph at the East China Regional Finals, where they ranked 2nd out of 114 teams in the preliminary round, setting a new record for WKU in this regional event and securing their spot in the National Final.
Congratulations to the debaters!

About “FLTRP·ETIC Cup”
Organized by the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press (FLTRP) and ETIC, the “FLTRP·ETIC Cup” is recognized as China’s most competitive English debate championship. The competition follows the rigorous British Parliamentary (BP) debate format, one of the most widely used framework for academic debate worldwide. Beyond assessing knowledge and analytical prowess, the event encourages engagement with frontier topics, fostering global perspectives and a sense of responsibility among young intellectuals.
The national final this year consisted of eight robin rounds. Motions spanned pressing societal and global issues, from social approval, education for disabled communities, workplace growth mindset, housing inequality, and social media’s impact on cultural production to ethical debates on “commodifying” suffering, climate advocacy, and energy security.
