QS China Summit 2025
From April 9 to 10, the QS China Summit 2025 was held in Chengdu. The QS China Summit 2025 is the premier event for leading academics, industry experts, government leaders, and decision-makers to uplift higher education in China.
Dr. Cary Anderson, Executive Vice Chancellor of Wenzhou-Kean University, and Dr. Midya Yousefi, Assistant Professor at the College of Education, represented Wenzhou-Kean University at the 2025 QS China Summit.
Dr. Cary Anderson featured in the fireside panel with leaders from the UK, Australia, and the U.S., sharing global perspectives on strategic transformation in higher education. Dr. Anderson highlighted that 75% of WKU undergraduates pursue postgraduate education, with 22% of those enrolling in the top 10 and 80% in the top 100. While acknowledging that Chinese students tend to focus heavily on grades, he also observed an incredible drive, curiosity, and respect among WKU students. Thanks to WKU’s unique U.S.-China integrated education, students are also actively involved in activities beyond the classroom, such as community service. When discussing ways to foster cross-cultural understanding and collaboration, Dr. Anderson outlined 3 key initiatives:
1) Encouraging short-term study at WKU for U.S. Kean students, which often leads to longer-term academic engagement in Wenzhou.
2) Hosting Faculty Collaboration Retreat between WKU and Kean University, which led to the launch of the President’s Global-Local (Glocal) Anchor Institution Research Grant Program—supporting joint student-faculty research that benefits local communities.
3) Planning Administrators Retreat this October and January to further strengthen institutional cooperation.
He also referenced Chinese President Xi’s reply letter to Dr. Lamont Repollet in June, which affirmed that Wenzhou-Kean University has achieved remarkable results over the past ten years and has become a "landmark project of China-US educational cooperation". Dr. Anderson expressed strong confidence in the continued development of a sustainable, mutually beneficial, and long-term collaboration between the two institutions.
Dr. Midya Yousefi was at the QS China Summit 2025 in Chengdu as a panel moderator. Dr. Midya Yousefi moderated a "Driving Technology for Educational Advancement" session with distinguished panelists from top Chinese universities and the edtech sector. They explored the future of higher education and the digital competencies essential for empowering the next generation of university leaders. She pointed out that ‘QS is driving global conversations that shape the future of higher education through innovation, collaboration, and bold leadership.’ In December 2024, Dr. Midya Yousefi represented Wenzhou-Kean University at ‘QS Reimaqine Education’ as a judge in London.
