On September 10th, the Computer Department of the College of Science and Technology of Wenzhou-Kean University (WKU) held the WKU 1st CS Technical Research Symposium. The Symposium not only showed the current scientific research achievements and new research directions of the students from the Computer Department but also reviewed the course of the Computer Department in the past ten years.

The Symposium consisted of three sessions, project presentation by the Computer Department of Kean University, project design by students of WKU, as well as brainstorming speech and presentation. In the part of project presentation by the Computer Department of Kean University, teachers and students from Kean University displayed a COVID-19 spread map made by themselves, which not only illustrated the curve of the COVID-19 outbreak at different time points, but also showed the situation of the COVID-19 in each state of the United States through the map, with clear color blocks to distinguish the local situation of pandemic.

In the part of project design by students of WKU, Hou Dazhou, the first prize winner who participated in the summer project of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, demonstrated his research result of the summer project, “Game Experience Based on Cloud Image Classification”. The project was modeled through a convolutional neural network and optimized through continuous training, which was impressive. Furthermore, each group of students brought their wonderful topics and precentations, and received constructive suggestions from professors. It was their constant diligence in and out of class that finally converged into their brilliant academic achievements.

James Yee, a lecturer of the Department of Computer Science, served as the moderator of the event. He opened the prelude of the activity with passionate words. Professor Nasser Mustafa was invited to give a speech. He said, this event is of great significance and will be a milestone start for both students and the college. In addition, graduates from Computer Department sent their sincere blessings from all over the world through the video.

Since 2016, there have been 181 graduates from Computer Department over the past 6 years. Most of them chose to continue their studies after graduation. Students who continue their studies have entered Columbia University, University of Pennsylvania, University of Southern California, University of Chicago, King’s College London, New York University, King Abdullah University of Science & Technology, University of Washington, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and other world-renowned universities.
