Wenzhou Municipal Science & Technology Bureau Hold a Research Seminar at WKU
Director LIU Huanbin, from Department of Science & Technology Cooperation, and Associate Director ZHANG Feng, from Department of Administrative Examination and Comprehensive Management, of Wenzhou Municipal Science & Technology Bureau, gave an attractive and content-rich research seminar on grant applications to more than 40 WKU faculty, staff and students on March 4 at Room GEH B302.
Director ZHANG Feng shared the information of the development of science & technology in Wenzhou, as well as the status of science & technology program systems, science & technology projects application, project approval announcement, and management procedure, etc. Mr. Zhang talked about the application process, regulations of funds usage and the completion of application form and feasibility study report in detail. Additionally, he stressed the importance of the Non-profit Social Development Science & Technology Program which is closely-related to WKU faculty. This program includes the fields of agriculture, resource and ecology, bio-medicine, oceanography, green architecture, public security and water pollution treatment. The proposed projects should conform to the state industry and technology policies, be original; target results that could create publications; be conducive to the regional industry or discipline development with market potential and social-economic effectiveness.
Director LIU Huanbin comprehensively described the situation of science & technology cooperation in Wenzhou. In addition, he indicated the significance of cooperation in science & technology at national, provincial and municipal levels. He further introduced the history of Sino-American science & technology collaboration development since the two countries first established diplomatic relations. Furthermore, he presented the 13th five-year plan of Wenzhou Science & Technology Cooperation. He hoped our faculty would be actively applying for the science & technology overseas cooperation grants. He noted that a province-state friendship cooperative project between Zhejiang and New Jersey, WKU could help establish a Sino-American science & technology cooperation platform through Kean University and other relevant institutions. The platform would introduce excellent high-tech talents and projects from America and other countries to China in order to serve the local industry upgrading and social-economic development.
Mr. Philip Connelly, who was present at the seminar, expressed his warm welcome and sincere gratitude to the two directors and hoped the seminar would encourage the faculty and staff to promote the academic and research affairs at WKU. In the Q and A part, our faculty and staff raised many questions, and the speakers provided well-targeted answers.
In 2016, two faculty from WKU obtained the sponsorship. The Wen-Rui Tang River Revitalization Assessment Project – Trophic System Modeling hosted by Dr. Toby Michelena received 150,000 from the 2016 Water Pollution Control and Treatment Program; The Design of a Personalized and Configurable Intelligent Tutoring System for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder using Eye Tracking based Behavioral Data for User Modeling hosted by Dr. Tiffany Tang received 50,000 from the Non-profit Science and Technology Program. These are two more successful examples of WKU faculty obtaining government funds since Dr. Meng Yu’s first received support from Zhejiang Provincial Natural Science Foundation of China.
