Building Cultural Bridges: Taishun Covered Bridge Model Presented at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences
Recently, Wenzhou-Kean University (WKU) Research Institution of Business Environment and Rule of Law hosted its first international exchange event in Bulgaria, where a Taishun Covered Bridge model was donated to the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. There was a similar donation in September 2020, when the University gave a model of Taishun’s Xidong Bridge to Kean University in the United States. Recognized as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, the Taishun Covered Bridge represents a significant cultural symbol. These efforts help promote Chinese culture abroad, furthering the University’s cultural exchange mission through charitable initiatives.
During the event, Dr. Cary Anderson, Executive Vice Chancellor of WKU, and Mariana Tian, Director of the Modern China Research Center at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, shared their vision of enhancing future collaboration in academic research and cultural exchange. Dr. Andrea Gatto of the College of Business and Public Management at WKU addressed China’s energy policy and economic development direction in depth. The event concluded with a performance by the Yordanovi Art Kukeri Dance Troupe, whose dance is similar to Chinese New Year traditions and is listed as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.
At the end of the event, Dr. Asen Velinov, Dean of the Research Institution of Business Environment and Rule of Law, extended his gratitude to all the guests for their participation. He highlighted the crucial role of cultural, business, and academic exchanges in today’s interconnected world. Regarding the future, the WKU Research Institution of Business Environment and Rule of Law will be committed to advancing cross-cultural cooperation and creating more opportunities for international collaboration in the academic, business, and legal sectors.
