WKU Student Secures Third Place in the 29th “21st Century Cup” National English Speaking Competition

From October 17 to 21, the national finals of the 29th “21st Century Cup” National English Speaking Competition, organized by China Daily, successfully concluded in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province. WKU student Fu Yuxi, a third-year student (Communication major), secured the third prize in the grand final.
The finals featured 246 contestants from universities across China, all presenting compelling speeches on the theme “The Revival of Traditional Culture.” Over several days of intense competition, participants showcased not only their linguistic proficiency but also their critical thinking skills, extensive knowledge, and remarkable adaptability through prepared speeches, impromptu speaking, and Q&A sessions.
About the Competition
The “21st Century Cup” National English Speaking Competition, founded by the China Daily Group in 1996, is one of the largest and most prestigious English-speaking competitions in China. It is held annually which attracts a great number of students across China, serving as a qualifying event for the International Public Speaking Competition in London.
In May of this year, Fu Yuxi, as a member of the ECT speech team, won first place in the regional final of Zhejiang Province, advancing to the national finals and becoming the first WKU student to compete in an in-person national speech contest.
