WKUers Win Second Prize in the National Finals of the 26th "FLTRP·CFLP Cup" National English Debating Competition

On June 1-2, 2024, the National Finals of the 26th "FLTRP·CFLP Cup" National English Debating Competition kicked off! Over the 2-day intense competition, 141 teams demonstrated wisdom in their arguments, carefully crafted their words, and showcased strong language prowess and exceptional analytical skills.

The WKU team, represented by Zhong Huiwei and Chen Yining (both majoring in Communication) and coached by Ms. Huang Jiaojiao and Mr. Wu Jiang, won the Second Prize in the National Finals, ranking the 69th out of 141 teams. Zhong Huiwei and Chen Yining teamed up for the first time this year to participate in the 26th "FLTRP·ETIC Cup" National English Debating Competition. After winning the Championship for the WKU Campus Selection, they secured the First Prize in the East China Regional Final in April, landing 19th out of 114 teams and advancing to the National Finals.

About "FLTRP·ETIC Cup"

The "FLTRP·ETIC Cup" National English Debating Competition stands as the largest and highest-level English debate event in China. The competition follows the British Parliamentary debate format, a common form of academic debate which is internationally adopted.

The national final this year consisted of eight robin rounds spanning two days. The debate topics encompasses social issues like charity, renewable energy, and public healthcare, as well as hot topics including artificial intelligence and university students' career choices. Beyond assessing knowledge and analytical prowess, the event sought to ignite a sense of purpose in contemporary university students as they navigate the challenges of the new era.
