Ruocong Wang
Upon graduating from university, I have been engaging in Chinese education for senior high school students for nine years, thus accumulating extensive teaching experience. During my nine years of educational career, I have taught at two century-old provincial first-class key high schools successively, namely Zhejiang Rui’an High School and Zhejiang Wenzhou High School, taking the key position of Director of Teaching and Research Section.
In October 2022, after taking post graduate study at the Department of Psychology of Wenzhou Kean University for a month, I was transferred to Wenzhou Second Foreign Language School as vice president. Returning to the university campus to study and recharge is a valuable enjoyment for me after working for 10 years. However, the postgraduate study was a great challenge for me at the beginning because of the cross-field learning from undergraduate Chinese to postgraduate psychology, the teaching mode in English, and the adaptive pressure of job transfer. Thanks to my inner love for psychology, the kind teaching style of professors in Wenzhou Kean University and the help of course tutors, I overcame all the difficulties and benefited a lot. The postgraduate curriculum is so substantial that sometimes I feel like having been taking two postgraduate courses of both English and psychology.
I have always been a learner and practitioner of behaviorist psychology. I believe that human potential can be developed and improved through scientific training, and I have also trained my reading ability and memory ability in practice.
For example, I have learned speed reading and won the championship for the First Reading Marathon of Wenzhou Station in Zhejiang Province for finishing reading Biography of Feng Zikai twice in three hours and answered all the questions correctly. With excellent time management and perseverance, I finally broke through my physical limits and completed 10 brain projects like memorizing 1040 random numbers at the 27th World Memory Championships, earning the title of "International Memory Master". In addition to my potential in language and memory, I have attempted to develop my physical coordination through various sports activities such as fencing, equestrian and marathon .
At the same time, I am also interested in social psychology. My research on “student talent career planning” has been throughout my nine-year career. I have participated in relevant training at my own expense during summer and winter holidays, gaining certificates such as National Career Development Counsellor and Teenagers Development Instructor (Senior). Since 2015, I have been engaging in a research project entitled ‘Career Planning for Senior High School Students’. The “Construction of Career Guidance Curriculum Group under the ‘General Education+Extension+Radiation’ Model” project and teaching papers have won the first prize in Zhejiang Province and have been published in the national core journal “Basic Education Curriculum”. Furthermore, upon the invitation of education departments like Zhejiang education department, I have delivered over 30 career planning lectures to members of Professional Development Training Program for Primary and Secondary School Teachers. However, I have realized my deficiency in education expertise, especially in Gifted Education and Talent Development, and thus aspire to undertake further studies in this area.
I realized that my educational practices lacked the theoretical support of systematic psychology, and Wenzhou Kean’s graduate studies in psychology helped me pursue further research in this area. Courses such as Psychology Statistics, Learning Theory and Application, Life-Span Developmental Psychology, Abnormal psychology have enriched my knowledge of psychology. Courses such as Statistical psychology and Advanced Social Psychology Research have enabled me to master rigorous methods of psychological research. The academic level and teaching style of the teachers in the psychology department of Wenzhou Kean University are very impressive. Dr. Amrita Kaur and Dr. Qian Li have greatly influenced me in my studies and life with their constant encouragement. After teaching for 9 years, I once again changed my identity and felt the charm of encouraging education from the perspective of a student. It can be said that the affinity of the two teachers also made me constantly adjust my teaching methods. I admire Dr. Eva Gacasan for her professionalism in psychological diagnosis and her care for patients with mental illness, and she has always encouraged me to try to promote music healing. Dr. Alex English himself has strong academic ability. He led me to do social psychological research projects, which improved my research ability. I am also very grateful to Yu Zhou , Qingqing Zhou and Sixun Hou, who have given me a lot of guidance and help as my tutors. I would also like to thank my 10 classmates who are the first graduate students of the psychology department of Wenzhou Kean University. Our age spans from the post-80s to the post-00s, and we learn and grow like good sisters together.
I have always believed that the value of human beings lies in continuous learning and returning what they have learned to society to help those in need. Thanks to Wenzhou Kean University for giving me a valuable learning opportunity. I can walk with so many enthusiasts of psychology, so that I can meet a better myself and be more capable of helping more people in the future.
