Bafi Mavis
I worked in the media field, serving as a Media Strategist at PHD Media, a global media consultancy firm, for five years. In this role, my primary responsibility was to formulate strategic advertising campaigns, ensuring they reached their intended audience and achieved impactful results within allocated budgets. Leveraging my background in psychology, I contributed a unique perspective to the strategic planning process.
Before my tenure at PHD Media, I worked as an Executive in the Human Resource Management department of a prominent mobile network operating organization. This experience was pivotal in shaping my understanding of organizational dynamics, particularly in the realm of human capital management. Eager to delve deeper into the intricacies of the business world, I pursued an MBA, during which I contributed to notable research publications.
Post-MBA, my passion for understanding the psychology of the workplace led me to pursue a second Master's in Human Behavior and Organizational Psychology at Wenzhou-Kean University. As a member of the first cohort, I actively engaged in diverse courses, projects, and research initiatives, expanding my knowledge in psychological principles, life-span development, human resource management, and social psychology.
Throughout my studies in the M.A. Psychology program, I actively engaged in diverse courses and projects, expanding my knowledge across psychological principles – learning theories, abnormal psychology, life-span development, human resource management, social psychology, etc. As a Graduate Research Assistant, I contributed to various research projects, exploring topics such as student engagement and teacher autonomy. Serving as a Graduate Teaching Assistant, I had the privilege of instructing freshmen students, honing my communication and mentorship skills while facilitating networking and professional development opportunities.
Wenzhou-Kean University's psychology program stands out for its diverse and enriching curriculum. I particularly appreciate the varied approaches employed in impacting knowledge, from collaborative study and role-playing to symposium presentations and practical applications. For instance, in the abnormal psychology class, we visited a psychiatric ward for firsthand experiences with patients dealing with mental health issues, while the adolescent psychology class involved interactions and interviews with high school students. The learning theories classes involve role-play activities where we use theories in practice. This hands-on approach ensures a connection between classroom learning and the real world. Most importantly, the mode of instruction is English.
The faculty at Wenzhou-Kean University consistently incorporates real-life situations into their teachings, enhancing our understanding and preparing us for the complexities of the professional landscape. This holistic approach has significantly contributed to my growth and competence in the field of Human Behavior and Organizational Psychology.
