【Zhejiang News】Zhejiang Party Chief Yi Lianhong Meets with President Lamont O. Repollet

On the morning of October 31, Mr. Yi Lianhong, the Secretary of the CPC Zhejiang Provincial Committee and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Zhejiang Provincial People’s Congress, met the delegation led by Dr. Lamont O. Repollet, President of Kean University in Hangzhou, China.

Yi Lianhong welcomed Lamont O. Repollet and expressed appreciation for his contribution to cultural exchanges between China and the United States through cooperative education. Yi mentioned that the “Double-Eight Strategy” is a comprehensive provincial development plan and top-level design tailored for Zhejiang by Comrade Xi Jinping, then Secretary of the Zhejiang Provincial Party Committee. Over the last two decades, Zhejiang has achieved profound changes and comprehensive improvements thanks to the implementation of the strategy. President Xi Jinping, who attaches great importance to the country’s progress in the sector of education, has made the significant decision to jointly establish Wenzhou-Kean University during his time in Zhejiang. Down through the years, Zhejiang has followed the decision of President Xi, prioritizing and supporting WKU in its construction and development. With the joint efforts of the two countries, WKU has formed a distinctive educational identity, cultivated a number of outstanding talents, and opened up channels for international exchanges to stand as a landmark achievement in the long-term friendly exchanges between Zhejiang Province and the State of New Jersey. He hoped that both sides would further deepen their partnership, introduce quality resources, embrace innovative school models, and promote people-to-people exchanges to better serve and benefit the public. Their shared goal is to advance WKU’s construction and development to reach new heights of excellence and script a new chapter in the provincial-state friendship.

Lamont O. Repollet introduced the educational objectives, developments, and achievements of Kean University. He also extended his gratitude for the strong support from the Zhejiang Provincial Government in constructing and developing Wenzhou-Kean University. He hoped that both sides could further reinforce their connections and deepen the cooperation to facilitate WKU’s improvements in academic discipline, scientific research innovation and student cultivation. In this case, WKU will become an exemplary Sino-US cooperation university to cultivate more socially useful talents, better contribute to high-quality local development, and improve people’s well-being.
