Over 500 WKU Students Present Research Achievements at the 2023 Student Research Day
Wenzhou-Kean University (WKU) successfully held its annual Student Research Day, where more than 500 students showcased their innovative research achievements. The event attracted great attention from faculty, students, and guests, reflecting the university’s deep commitment to fostering undergraduate research and innovation.
Celebrating Innovation and Scholarly Excellence
The opening ceremony was held in the presence of Wenzhou city officials, representatives from the Wenzhou Association for Science and Technology, and Academician Liu Yixun, along with other distinguished experts and guests. Together, they witnessed the official launch of the 2023 Student Research Day.
This annual event aims to recognize outstanding student research and provide a platform for students to exchange ideas, share discoveries, and engage in academic dialogue. Through active participation, WKU students demonstrated strong innovation, creativity, and a spirit of exploration — showcasing the university’s distinctive “learning through research” philosophy.

Diverse Research Topics and Interactive Presentations
This year’s Student Research Day featured a wide range of research themes, covering humanities and social sciences, natural sciences, computer science, mathematics, arts, and design. Students presented their work through posters, models, and live demonstrations, sharing their findings with judges, faculty, and visitors.
Throughout the event, students engaged in lively discussions and exchanges with the audience, reflecting their growing academic maturity and enthusiasm for research. Teachers, industry professionals, and corporate representatives who attended the event praised the students’ achievements and provided valuable feedback to help further improve their work.

Recognition and Mentorship
During the award ceremony, Vice Chancellor Dr. Eric Yang presented certificates to the winning students, who also shared their research experiences and insights. Their stories served as valuable inspiration for their peers, encouraging more students to embark on their own research journeys.

Encouraging Student-Faculty Collaboration
To promote collaboration between students and faculty members, WKU launched the Student Partnering with Faculty (or Staff) Research Program (SpF/SpS) in 2016. The program provides financial support for selected projects each year, helping students strengthen their research skills and apply classroom learning to real-world academic practice.
By 2023, more than 300 students and nearly 100 faculty mentors had participated in SpF projects, receiving a total of RMB 4 million in funding. Since 2018, WKU has supported approximately 330 student conference participations, and faculty-student teams have published over 160 papers in influential international journals.

A Platform for Future Scholars
WKU’s Student Research Day continues to grow as a hallmark of the university’s academic culture — providing a vibrant platform for young scholars to explore, question, and innovate. It embodies WKU’s mission to cultivate critical thinkers, creative problem-solvers, and globally minded leaders through hands-on, research-driven learning experiences.
