Welcome! Class of 2024
WKU welcomed nearly 800 freshmen from all over China and countries including America, Korea etc. September 5th Saturday.
To their convenience, several shuttle buses guided by representatives have been allocated to pick up students at railway station and airport.
Different from previous years, in this year, because of the pandemic prevention and control, the University saw orderly enrollment rather than a sea of people. Volunteers marched in the morning ready to help throughout the check-in journey, including luggage disinfection, handling and check-in guidance. Over campus gate, students’ luggage was sterilized, meanwhile, they were required to swipe the ID card before entering the temperature measurement area, then go temperature checking, submit “health declaration form” and show the Wenzhou health code, finally led to the residence hall by volunteers. On shuttles, volunteers introduced the buildings along the way and the school anecdotes for freshmen.
At the same time, Wenzhou News Network (www.66wz.com) did a live telecast about freshmen check-in process, with more than 50000 people watching, taking the audience to remotely experience the students’ residence halls, canteen, comprehensive stadium, and so on.
After arriving the residence hall, freshmen were busy checking in. They were supposed to sign up, receive campus ID and pick up WKU T-Shirt at Hall Plaza. And a surprise——Freshmen Welcome Packages are waiting for them in their rooms. The Packages including a Undergraduate Handbook, a Suntree Counseling Center Brochure, a Letter From Suntree To WKUers and a notebook prepared specifically by the University. Trained RAs and mentors had been waiting on each floor to help the freshmen deal with problems they encountered.
WANG Beijiao, Party Secretary, Dr. WANG Li, Chancellor, Dr. ZHENG Xiaodong, Vice Chancellor, Dr. XU Shuli, Vice Chancellor and XIA Caiguo, Vice Chancellor together with the leaders of relevant departments went to check all aspects of new residence halls to ensure that freshmen had a safe and comfortable learning and living environment. They talked with students cordially, inquired about their study and life, encouraged students to cherish their college life.
Yanqing Huang(黄艳青) of Shaoxing, Zhejiang was excited to start a journey in an open and inclusive university. She said what attracted her to WKU were the small-sized class and the principle of “providing students with different ways of development”. “All I have to do next is adapt, learn and make friends.” She brought her roommates hand-written postcards, looking forward to meeting them soon.
Parents were settled in Kean Town, joining in Parent and Family Orientation virtually through Bilibili. WANG Beijiao, Party Secretary, Dr. ZHENG Xiaodong, Vice Chancellor and Dr. Eric Yang, acting Vice Chancellor for Academic came to Kean town to communicate with parents, share education concept and exchange ideas. Dr. Shuli Xu, Vice Chancellor gave Welcome Address, followed by Dr. Caojiang, Dean of College of Business and Public management who made the speech about Rules and Expectation. “Students come to WKU, become WUKers, to some extent, they are like our children.” The words of Dr. Shuli Xu, Vice Chancellor, were widely agreed by parents. Later, the Office of the Registrar explained the relevant information about Privacy, Probation, Dismissal etc. Other useful information, for example, Student One-stop Service, Mental Health, Study Abroad Program to Kean and Career Plan were mentioned one by one, so that parents could better understand what kind of college life their children would have and how students would be supported.
