Huang Ping, the Consul General from the New York Consulate of China, Yang Jun, the Education Counselor of the Education office six people in total visited the main campus of Kean University in Union, New Jersey on February 14th. People they met with included Dr Farahi, the president of Kean University, Nicholas R. Felice, the assemblyman for New Jersey and J. Christian Bollwage, the mayor of Elizabeth in New Jersey. Senior officers of Kean University who attended included the Chairman of the board of directors, the provost, vice presidents and Mr. John Kean, the director of Wenzhou-Kean University.
President Farahi announced that Kean University highly values its cooperation with China on a long-term basis and has achieved fruitful results. Xi Jinping, the General Secretary of the People’s Republic of China, visited Wenzhou-Kean University in 2006 when he was the Provincial Party Committee Secretary of Zhejiang Province. Wenzhou-Kean University is doing well. Thirty per cent of the first cohort were admitted by world-renowned universities upon graduation.
The Consul General, Huang Ping, stated that it is a great honor to visit the Kean University where general secretary Xi Jinping once visited. Since China’s reform and opening up and the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States 40 years ago, tremendous changes have taken place in Chinese society and bilateral relations, especially in educational cooperation and the exchange fields which have brought fruitful results. Wenzhou Kean University is an example of success. He said, “In the three months since I assumed the post, I have met with hundreds of people from all walks of life in the region. I deeply feel that friendly cooperation remains the main theme of China-Us relations, and the two peoples are the main force for promoting the bilateral relationship between the US and China. Huang hopes that Wenzhou Kean University continues to focus on the overall relationship and actively participates and supports the education cooperation and cultural exchange between the two. He especially hopes that Wenzhou Kean University and China Cooperate well so that they make a great contribution to the development of China-Us relations.
After the meeting, president Farahi accompanied Consul General Huang and visited the College of Business and Public Management and the College of Architecture and Design at Kean University. Consul General Huang also communicated and shook hands with students at Kean University including the exchange student representatives from Wenzhou Kean University, and kindly told the students to contact the consulate general if they encounter difficulties.
