“Journey of Design” – A Lecture on Graphic Design

On June 5th, Dr. Wang Xueqing, Ph.D. supervisor and professor of design at the China Academy of Art (CCA) gave a lecture themed” Journey of Design” at Wenzhou-Kean University. Mr. Frank Wang, the Chair of te University Council, faculty members and staff, including the Director of the Library, Mr. Charles Greenberg and Professor Duff, along with many students attended this lecture. Mr. Qian Qiang, the Vice Chair of the University Council, hosted this event.

The lecture covered a wide range of topics, including graphic design, costume design, industrial design and advertising design. By showing a lot of pictures and through vivid andhumorous explanation, Dr. Wang shared his own story and experience with the audience. At the beginning, Dr. Wang showed to us visual arts students portfolios when he was in France as a visiting scholar and offered different comments on these works. Following this introduction, Dr. Wang provided the audience with “a global tour”: creativehotel bathrooms design in Japan, a unique house built by an artist on the green land of the Provence, the distinctive packing style of pineapple cake by a Taiwan creative institute, the humanistic warmth of Northern home design and various tea packing styles in France, Korea, and Australia.

At the end of the lecture, Dr. Wang offered some advice for WKU visual art students:” I believe the students of Wenzhou-Kean University could make good use of the strong faculty of Kean USA, learning more diversified design.”

The lecture received warm applause, enabling the audience to appreciate the vast world and the beauty of design.
