WKU Welcomes Second Cohort of International Exchange Students from Kean University

How time flies. WKU was welcoming the second cohort of international exchange students from Kean University. On the evening of January14th, 12 Kean students arrived at Wenzhou’s Longwan International airport and were warmly greeted by WKU students. During the spring semester, they will study and live together with WKU students.

The day after their arrival, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Holger Henke welcomed the students to their first orientation session. Representatives from Student Affairs, the Student Career Development Center, the Counseling Center, and the Medical Service Center introduced their own departments and services. Following the orientation, the Kean exchange students and their peer-mentors went shopping in the Cha Shan academic campus area. Peer-mentoring is a special program for the exchange students: a Chinese student serves as a resource that helps the exchange student integrates the new experience of Chinese culture.

On the evening of January 18th, the WKU Student Government organized a welcome party at the dining hall. There was dancing and singing performances, as well as game time. Everyone enjoyed themselves at this party.

During the Spring Festival vacation, the exchange students will live with local families, experiencing the Chinese New Year together with their WKU student friends.

    
The Kean exchange students are majoring in arts, international business, accounting, business management, psychology, and biology. Their families are from places such as Russia, Colombia, Italy, and the Philippines. WKU is offering a special Mandarin language course and a course on Chinese culture for them. The exchange students expect to gain a deeper understanding of Chinese culture and develop more Chinese friendships through this opportunity.
