Wang Li Appointed as WKU New Chancellor
On Feb.25th, Wenzhou-Kean University held the University Leadership and Faculty Representatives Meeting, announcing the appointment of the new Chancellor. The meeting was attended by Mr. Ma Yongliang, a standing member of CPC Wenzhou Municipal Committee, and the Director of Wenzhou Municipal Organization Department, Mr. Zheng Jianhai, WKU board member and Director of Wenzhou Education Bureau, Ms. Xu Jia, Deputy Director of Municipal Organization Department and Mr. Qian Qiang, WKU board member and Vice Chancellor of Wenzhou University. Mr. Wang Beijiao, Chairman of WKU Board of Directors hosted the meeting.
According to the Articles of Association of Wenzhou-Kean University, Wenzhou-Kean University shall have Chancellor, who shall be jointly nominated by both Parties in full consultation with the President of Kean University USA, and appointed by the Board of Directors upon approval of Chinese examination and approval authorities. At the meeting, Mr. Wang read the resolution of appointing chancellor of Wenzhou-Kean University, and agreed to appoint Dr. Wang Li as the Chancellor of Wenzhou-Kean University. Mr. Ma Yongliang noted, “both the provincial and municipal government have always been keenly following WKU’s development. For the Chancellor’s appointment, great attention has been paid on this matter. The last few years have witnessed WKU’s rapid growth. Aiming to build a high-level university, WKU has made significant progress in various aspects, contributing to lot Wenzhou’s higher education development. Professor Wang Li has rich experience as he has served in various administrative positions in Zhejiang University. With his broad international vision and knowledge of higher education management, both the provincial and municipal party committee believe that he is qualified to serve as the Chancellor of WKU. ”

The new Chancellor Dr. Wang Li also addressed at the meeting. He said,“ WKU is a very important education institution. Students at WKU have access to the world’s two largest economies: China and the U.S, which is a rare opportunity. The United States boasts the most Nobel Prize winners, and this is highly related to the education they received. As we are now cooperating with Kean University, we got more opportunities to learn this education system. Thus I believe WKU is a university with unlimited potential of development. ”Dr. Wang also said that he will start learning relevant regulations concerning China-foreign cooperative school running, conduct in-depth research and strive to creating an even better future for WKU. “Last, I want to cite a remark from President Xi’s New Year message, ‘we are running at full speed towards the realization of our dreams’. We as WKUers, are also running. Let’ us work together to realize our dreams and make it a great success.”
Biography of Wang Li
Dr. Wang Li, born in Jiaxing. He currently is a professor and doctor tutor of Zhejiang University and Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, UK (FRSC). He got his master and Ph.D. degree at Zhejiang University and was a postdoctor in University of Waterloo in Canada. He has been granted the Special Government Allowances of the State Council. He engaged in teaching, research, and management when he worked in Zhejiang University, and also served as the vice director of Department of Polymer Science and Engineering, the vice director of Office of Global Engagement, the dean of International College. He has held more than 70 research programs including eleven projects from Natural Science Foundation of China, one key project from the Ministry of Science and Technology, one 863 project from the Ministry of Science and Technology, one key international cooperative project from the Ministry of Science and Technology, and projects from multinational corporations and domestic enterprises as the project director. He has published more than 300 papers in the journals such as “Chemical Reviews”, “Prog. Polym. Sci.”, “Angewandte Chemie-International Edition”, “J. Phys. Chem. B”, “Macromolecules”, “Nanotechnology” and so on.
